The International Telecommunications Union (ITU), founded in 1865 is committed to providing communication to people around the globe. From satellites to global radio spectrums the ITU focuses on facilitating connectivity to ensure communication internationally. Since 1969, World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated on May 16 in recognition of the founding of ITU. ITU shares May 17 with World Information Day as a way to raise global awareness of social change and how technology and the internet work to connect people together.
