Inspector General Steve Linick: “Why He was Fired”

President. Donald Trump fired State Department Inspector General (IG) Steve  Linick on May 15. This action was recommended by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was involved in at least two investigations reportedly begun by  Linick office at the time.

The responsibilities of the inspector general are to audit suspicious government activities and investigate cases of fraud, or other abuses within a government organization.

There are many media sources expressing doubt about the reason behind the firing of the  IG.

According to NPR, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman, Eliot Engel said, “I have learned that the Office of the Inspector General had opened an investigation into Secretary Pompeo,  Linick’s firing amid such a probe strongly suggests that this is an unlawful act of retaliation.”. Linick’s has been on the job since 2013 and was appointed by former President. Barack Obama.

Within six weeks,  President has fired five IGs. The Secretary confirmed that he had recommended to President Trump that  Linick be removed from office.   Pompeo said that, he had no idea that Linick was investigating him. Pompeo.

Democrats are upset with President Trump and claimed. Linick was fired for political reasons. On the other hand, Linick had been investigating Pompeo for the improperly using government staff for personal services, such as walking his dog and picking up dry cleaning.

On Monday 18 Engel said he also suspected, “there was another reason for Mr. Linick’s firing.  His office [IG} was investigating – at my request – Trump’s phony declaration of an emergency, so he could send weapons to Saudi Arabia,”. Engel said in a statement aired on the BBC.

Engel said that Trump did not receive approval From Congress prior to taking this action.

Utah Senator Mitt Romney (R) tweeted on the firing of the five IGs, The firings of multiple Inspectors Generals is unprecedented; doing so without good cause chills the independence essential to their purpose. It is a threat to accountable democracy and a fissure in the constitutional balance of power.”

In reply, President Trump- tweeted, ‘Loser’ to  Romney and referenced the 2012 election where Romney lost the presidential election and the 2016 presidential election won by President Trump.

Although there appears to be several reasons for the firing of the Linick, there is still no specific reason given for – ‘why He was fired.’.
